In a historic milestone for Somalia’s fishing sector, Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, His Excellency Ahmed Hassan Aden, inaugurated the nation’s Somalia’s First Fisheries Lab Boosts Industry. This pioneering initiative is set to drive innovation, research, and sustainable development in Somalia’s fisheries industry.
Following the launch, the Ministers, accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Fisheries, toured the state-of-the-art facility. The inspection showcased the lab’s advanced capabilities, including its capacity to conduct cutting-edge research, provide specialized training, and offer technical support to the fisheries industry.
while Somalia, boasting the longest coastline in Africa, holds immense potential for marine resource development. The new Fisheries Lab aims to unlock this potential, empowering local fishers and industry stakeholders with the tools and knowledge needed to sustainably manage and benefit from the country’s abundant marine resources.
“This is a transformative step for Somalia’s blue economy,” said Minister Ahmed Hassan Aden. “The Fisheries Lab will not only strengthen our economy but also ensure that we harness our natural resources responsibly for the prosperity of all Somali communities.”
However the lab represents a cornerstone in Somalia’s broader efforts to enhance food security, create jobs, and build a resilient, sustainable fishing industry that supports long-term economic growth.
