The Ministry of Rural Development and Resilience of the Southwestern State of Somalia, led by Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Nor, proudly participated in a dynamic panel discussion hosted by the Restore Somalia Foundation at COP 29. The session titled “Empowering Somalia’s Food System through Diaspora Engagement” focused on collaborative solutions to improve food security and promote agricultural transformation in Somalia.

The event brought together key stakeholders including policy makers, experts and members of the Somali diaspora to discuss innovative approaches to utilizing diaspora resources to strengthen Somalia’s food system. Dr. Nor emphasized the importance of building resilient rural communities and highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable development and climate adaptation.

“Our participation in this important discussion reflects our commitment to creating a food secure Somalia by fostering partnerships that strengthen our communities and harness the enormous potential of the Somali diaspora,” Dr. Nor stated.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to work with international organizations, local leaders and the diaspora to advance rural development and address the challenges of climate change. The event was a milestone in Somalia’s journey towards sustainable and inclusive growth in the agricultural sector.
