AgroSomalia welcomes the launch of Somalia agricultural training in Mogadishu, supported by the EU European Union in Somalia in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, the Somalia Resilience Programme (SomReP), and other development partners.

This important initiative is a positive step toward strengthening Somalia’s agricultural extension system. It aims to provide harmonized, practical, and nationally endorsed training guidance for farmers and extension workers across eight key crop value chains.
Agricultural training is very important for improving food production, supporting rural livelihoods, and helping farmers adopt better farming practices. Many Somali farmers face challenges such as limited access to modern agricultural knowledge, climate change, pests and diseases, poor quality inputs, and weak extension services. Training programs like this can help farmers improve productivity and make better decisions on their farms.
Through this initiative, farmers and extension workers can benefit from improved guidance on crop production, land preparation, seed selection, crop management, pest control, post-harvest handling, and climate-resilient farming practices. These skills are essential for building a more productive and sustainable agricultural sector in Somalia.
The European Union’s support through SomReP also contributes to Somalia’s broader efforts to improve food security, strengthen agricultural institutions, and build community resilience. By supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, this program helps promote coordinated agricultural development and better service delivery for farmers.
At AgroSomalia, we continue to share agricultural knowledge, farmer support resources, and updates related to food security and rural development in Somalia. Strong agricultural training and extension services are essential for the future of Somali agriculture. When farmers receive the right knowledge, tools, and technical support, they are better able to increase production, improve income, and contribute to national food security.
This launch in Mogadishu is more than a training event. It is an important step toward empowering farmers, supporting extension workers, and building a stronger agricultural future for Somalia.
